The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing accurate financial reports, balance sheet reconciliations, and assisting with audits and budget planning within a transportation and logistics environment. The role requires experience in accounting principles, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and other reporting tools. Preferred candidates have experience in transportation, distribution, or manufacturing and possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, with CPA certification being desirable.
Position: Staff Accountant
Job Description:
The ideal Staff Accountant candidate will have experience in an Accountant role within a publicly held company. Experience in transportation services, distribution, or manufacturing is strongly desired. The Staff Accountant will assist in the preparation of accurate financial reporting at various levels.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
- Prepare weekly reporting for Operational and Sales groups
- Assists in the preparation of monthly and quarterly journal entries
- Assists in the preparation of the monthly and quarterly closing processes for financial reporting
- Fixed Asset Accounting – entering and retiring company owned assets in Fixed Asset sub-system
- Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts
- Prepare financial and analytical schedules as assigned
- Assist auditors with support during quarterly reviews and year-end audit
- Assist the CFO and Controller with assigned projects
- Assist Internal Audit with requests and documentation
- Assists with budget planning and preparation
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
- CPA certification is desired
- Experience in transportation services, distribution, or manufacturing is preferred
- Knowledge of GAAP and other accounting concepts and experience in their application
- Highly organized, and has a strong attention to detail
- Strong work ethic, high integrity
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of reporting tools & other MIS tools
- Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Skills:
- The ideal candidate will possess a “can do” attitude with a “will do” work ethic
- Interpersonal skills necessary to build effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
- Strong organization, prioritization, project management and consulting skill set
- General computer skills - Microsoft Office, Outlook, AS400
