This position is for a board-certified or board-eligible Pediatric Epileptologist to lead and develop a new Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) within a comprehensive pediatric medical center in Knoxville, Tennessee. The role involves providing inpatient and outpatient care for children with complex epilepsy, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and contributing to the region’s only neurology practice dedicated exclusively to pediatric patients. The opportunity also includes academic involvement, such as faculty appointment and participation in a new pediatric residency program starting in 2027.
Opportunity Overview
A comprehensive medical center with a team of over 100 pediatric sub-specialists is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Pediatric Epileptologist to expand pediatric epilepsy services. This is a unique opportunity for a pediatric physician with demonstrated leadership and clinical expertise in epilepsy to shape and direct the development of an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and collaborate closely with an established team of pediatric neurologists and advanced practice providers.
Role Highlights
Drive the establishment and growth of a dedicated EMU
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to expand access to advanced diagnostics and treatment options for children with complex epilepsy
Provide a mix of inpatient care"including coverage of PICU, NICU, hospital floors, and scheduled inpatient EEG monitoring"as well as outpatient clinic care
Contribute to the only neurology practice in the area dedicated solely to pediatric patients, providing care for children with mild to complex neurological conditions
Qualifications
Board-certified or board-eligible in Neurology with special qualifications in Child Neurology and/or Epilepsy
Fellowship training in epilepsy or clinical neurophysiology preferred
Demonstrated clinical, interpersonal, and communication skills
Eligibility for an unrestricted Tennessee Medical License (or ability to obtain)
Academic and Leadership Opportunities
Potential for a faculty appointment with a major university, rank commensurate with experience

Ideal Candidate
Expertise in diagnosis and management of pediatric epilepsy, including advanced epilepsy management (medical, dietary, surgical, neurostimulation therapies)
Experience in EMU operations, EEG interpretation, and multidisciplinary epilepsy care
