The Medical-Surgical / Telemetry Registered Nurse (Med/Surg-Tele RN) is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to adult patients with a variety of acute medical and surgical conditions. The Med/Surg-Tele RN monitors patients’ vital signs and cardiac rhythms, manages complex medication regimens, and collaborates with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote recovery, safety, and optimal outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Assessment & Care
- Perform comprehensive assessments of patients’ physical, emotional, and psychosocial status.
- Monitor, interpret, and document telemetry and cardiac rhythm strips.
- Recognize and respond to cardiac arrhythmias, changes in condition, or emergencies.
- Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapies as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and accuracy.
- Evaluate patient responses and adjust care plans as needed.
- Provide pre- and post-operative care, including wound care, drain management, and pain control.
Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education and support regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring that patient rights and preferences are respected.
Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Adhere to hospital policies, infection control protocols, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
Teamwork & Professionalism
- Support a culture of teamwork, respect, and clinical excellence.
- Mentor new nurses, nursing students, or support staff as assigned.
- Maintain professional competence through ongoing education and certification.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred).
Licensure/Certification:
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State].
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (required or obtained within 6 months of hire).
Experience:
- Minimum of 1–2 years of recent acute care experience in a medical-surgical or telemetry setting (preferred).
- Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm monitoring and interpretation.
- Ability to manage multiple complex patients in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Competence in EHR documentation and use of telemetry monitoring systems.
